If you use Simply Accounting 2008, 2009, or 2010 for your business accounting needs, and possibly later versions, you may run across an error message something like this:

Someone else is already using the program under this name.
Please use a different user name or try again later.

This can happen when no other user is logged in at all, due to an inconsistent state in the Simply Connection Manager.

To fix it, follow the steps below.  In these instructions, "server computer" is the computer where the Simply Accounting company files are located, and "client computer" means the computer where Simply Accounting is run by a user to enter transactions.  Depending on your setup, there may be more than one client computer, and the server computer may also be a client computer.  Modify these instructions as necessary for your setup.

1. Exit Simply Accounting on the client computers.
2. Stop the Simply Accounting Connection Manager on the server computer.
3. Still on the server computer, use the Windows Task Manager to kill the mysqld-nt.exe process.
4. Restart the Simply Accounting Connection Manager on the server computer.
5. Restart Simply Accounting on the client computer.

You should now be able to log in to Simply Accounting on the client computer.
