Problems with Internet Explorer can be caused by corrupted settings, third-party addons, or sometimes it seems random gremlins can randomly make pages show up blank, even though Internet Explorer shows "Done" at the bottom of the window.

Resetting Internet Explorer settings to default can sometimes fix this problem.  While there are automated "fix it" tools to do this job, sometimes when Internet Explorer is broken in this way, these tools cannot run properly.

Here is how to do the reset manually, for either of Internet Explorer 7, or Internet Explorer 8 running on Windows XP:

  1. Exit all programs, including Internet Explorer.
  2. Click Start->Run...
  3. In the box, type inetcpl.cpl and press Enter/Return.

  4. On the dialog that shows, click the Advanced tab.

  5. Look for the "Reset Internet Explorer settings" section, and click the Reset button there.

  6. Click Reset again.

  7. When the process is finished, click Close.

  8. Start Internet Explorer, and see if the problem is fixed.
